LAUREL WOODCOCK

walkthrough 1.0, 2006

Walkthrough is a preproduction term in the film industry for rehearsal where performers speak their lines, practice cues and movements, but no shooting occurs.

As part of the residency at The Banff Centre for the Arts, I transcribed excerpts of direction from film scripts into metallic silver vinyl lettering, using the standard font and formatting from the scriptwriting software “Final Draft”. These cinematic instructions for everyday gestures and vernacular dialogue were placed in locations where the texts suggested the actions of passersby in those sites.

The site of The Banff Centre as host to an international film festival plays a significant role as backdrop.

Cinema and everyday life converge.
